Book Collecting as a Hobby and the Search for First Editions, Rare and Antiquarian Books

Book collecting is a hobby that can be enjoyed on several levels. There are books as Art, books for knowledge and breadth, books that may be linked together to form groups on a particular subject or author as well as books for monetary value. Why are some first editions valuable and others less so? The class will also discuss the enjoyment of staying offline and physically searching used book stores and junk stores as well as finding signed/collectible books and how to recognize “imperfections” in any book.

Presenter: Ted Weinhemer is a book collector and appreciates the connections he has forged with others through the searching process. If you would like to become a member or if you have questions about the status of your membership, please email llp@colgate.edu.

All classes are live and in-person. We will not be recording sessions.
