Walk the Boards Productions, LLC. in collaboration with
Arts at the Palace *Summer Shakespeare and Contemporary Acting-Writing Lab*
The program consists of two intensive weeks of exploration of Shakespeare andthe universality of the themes represented in his work: love, hate, loyalty and power, and their utter relevance to the present day, 400 whole years after the man’s death in 1616.
Each day students will work with professional artists (Alessandro Trinca and Laura Vivio) on specific scenes from a variety of Shakespeare’s classics. They will be then led through the process of writing and performing their own work on stage. The scenes will be directly influenced by Shakespeare’s masterpieces but will have a contemporary and highly individual feel.
All students will cover both roles of actors and writers and, whenever not on stage, will contribute to their peers’ work with constructive criticism, which will mean they will also be introduced to elements of directing.
The lab will culminate in a performance in front of an invited audience, in which parallels will be drawn between their interpretations of Shakespeare’s work and their own contemporary creations, all revolving around universal themes that are timeless.
By the end of the lab, all students should understand what it takes to put on a show from start to finish with a focus on teamwork, personal responsibility and thinking outside the box.
Students must be aged 13+ to participate. There is no upper age limit.
