Global Change in Antarctica: the Impact of Hot Times in a Cold and Faraway Place on the Rest of the World

We are experiencing tremendous ice loss today in Antarctica. Sediment cores provide a perspective on modern change, at a variety of scales, from tens of millions of years to decades. How do observations from past warming events inform us of the likely paths for the future?

Presenter: Amy Leventer is a Professor of Earth and Environmental Geosciences at Colgate University. Her research specializes in reconstructing the history of climate change in Antarctica, with the goal of understanding the range and rate of change in the past. These data provide a perspective on the rapid ice loss we are witnessing today.

Most of our classes occur at The Palace Theater in Hamilton, NY. All classes are open to non-members for a $5 fee.

If you would like to become a member or if you have questions about the status of your membership, please email llp@colgate.edu.
