“Every person is a writer, and every writer deserves a safe environment in which to experiment, learn, and develop craft.” Pat Schneider, Amherst Writers & Artists Founder

The Writers Accountability Group (WAG) is a free monthly opportunity for writers of all ages and genres to come together in person to offer mutual support, motivate accountability and goal-setting, participate in writing exercises, share work, and offer helpful responses to the work shared.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • something to write with (pen and paper or laptop)

  • (optional) your current writing project

  • (optional) water and a snack for the break

HOW IT WORKS:

Each meeting will last 90-minutes, starting with a goal-setting and checking-in period. Be prepared to share a writing goal for which you’d like to be held accountable. Following that, we will have a snack break and then divide into three groups: quiet writing, craft talk, and feedback.

The quiet writing group will use the remaining 50 minutes to write in a quiet space. Optional prompts will be available. The craft talk group will spend a few minutes reading or listening to an aspect of writing craft via podcast or craft book, and the rest of the time will be spent discussing the topic. The feedback group will focus on sharing work and giving feedback. Feel free to choose a breakout group based on how you feel that day.

Each meeting will be facilitated by Writers Accountability Group (WAG) alumnae Joan E. McCarthy, Kit Boyer, and Abby Palko.
