The Jake Lozo Band

A Blues Legacy Comes to Life in Hamilton, NY

This spring, Arts at the Palace welcomed guitarist and blues artist Jake Lozo into the Studio Room as part of our Artist in Residence program—a creative initiative designed to give musicians time and space to explore, develop, and share their work. Over the course of several days, Jake and his band took over the studio - writing, rehearsing, and recording new music with full production and engineering support. The residency concluded with a live recording showcase open to the public, offering the community a unique look at the artistry of music-making.

Jake Lozo brings a deep respect for blues tradition while pushing the genre forward with his own signature sound. A fourth-generation musician from Ilion, NY, he brings a modern edge to the blues, blending the influence of legends like Buddy Guy, BB King, and Stevie Ray Vaughan with his own expressive guitar style.

After launching his professional career with the Utica-based blues group Uncle Charlie and The Meatballs, he founded The Jake Lozo Band in 2022. The group has since grown into a powerhouse ensemble featuring guitar, bass, drums, saxophone, harmonica, and keyboards. When offstage, Jake serves on the board of the Mohawk Valley Blues Society, working to keep blues traditions alive for future generations—including his son, Fischer.

Whether performing solo, fronting his band, or collaborating with artists like Tom Townsley or “The Voice” contestant Shawn Smith, Jake’s guitar work stands out for its clarity, emotion, and authenticity.

“Our Artist in Residence program is designed to give regional musicians the time, space, and support to focus deeply on their craft,” said Henry Howard, Executive Director of Arts at the Palace. “Jake’s residency was a powerful example of what happens when talented artists are given the resources to experiment and create.”

Capturing it all behind the lens was our 2025 Arts Coordinator and Digital Storytelling Fellow, Ryan John Lee, whose professional work in cinematography and video production documented the entire project.
