This four-hour Saturday workshop will give local writers an opportunity to experience the Amherst Writers & Artists (AWA) workshop methodology and gain skill in reading work aloud. As described by Suzanne S. Rancourt, certified AWA-trained workshop leader and affiliate, this approach “meets the participant where they are at in their lives, is non-hierarchical (we are all artists), and maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of group participants. We focus on what is working; we never assume the writer and the narrator are the same.”

Through the AWA methodology and her years of experience, Ms. Rancourt creates and maintains a safe and respectful writing environment. Writers of all ages, genders, genres, and skill levels are welcome and will benefit. This workshop will start with the presentation of the AWA methodology, and then continue with writing samples and essays, writing prompts, writing time, and sharing time, followed by a break. The second half of the session will focus on “how to” present work orally. This portion will include vocal prompts, oration skills and confidence building.

Arts at The Palace is also offering a free in-person monthly
Writers Accountability Group (WAG) where local writers can offer mutual support and hone their craft. Writers interested in participating in “Expressive Writing with Suzanne S. Rancourt” are also encouraged to join WAG. Learn More.

HOW IT WORKS: Bring your writing notebook, pen, pencil, or charged laptop, and a lunch for the break if desired. Participants will have an option to share work written during the session. Handouts and light refreshments will be provided.
